What about mid-career w/o .NET

What do you recommend for a mid-career person with assorted client/server experience including some VB and SQL Server, but no .NET background ? Will it be of value to obtain a certification and attempt to use that as a qualification in seeking employment ? This is a gap that I find few willing to address.

Im also in this profile and im seriously considering to get certified. I too would like to get an answer for this question.
