Microsoft is trying to turn Hotmail's hundreds of millions of casual e-mail users into customers for a wide variety of Windows Live personal services. How, you may ask? By redesigning this long-neglected Web e-mail. One of the key decisions for Microsoft is ad placement.
Do you think Windows Live Mail should have one big ad or two?

I think I'm going to miss the HOTmail
it had such a happy ring to it once. Oh-well, there goes another 'oldie, but goodie'. I can hear my grand sons now... "Wow, you had a '@hotmail.com' e-mail address?" "You're old" sigh... oh, the pain.
a Firefox extension will be quickly developed that will rip out all the ads anyway.
I've had my Hotmail account for years as can be seen by the simple lastname+firstinitial of my account. No strings of numbers or other attempts at unique identifiers were necessary back then.
Sadly, Hotmail has always been a second class application. I only use it when I can't access my "real" email accounts and as a spam catcher. Whenever a web site asks for an email address, I give them the Hotmail account. They can spam it to death because of the one feature of Hotmail that I really like. Any email received from an address that isn't in my address book is sent to the spam folder. A bit draconian perhaps, but effective since I don't receive important emails there anyway.

I'm a user of JavaCoolSoftware's SpywareBlaster so I don't get to see the "wonderful" adverts that seems to be in question. Pages load faster and I have far less ads and spam from the media advertisors. The interface of Live-Mail works hoever I'm not very impressed as yet with their "Live" services. Especially the Live-MSN-Maps_&_Directions. (I go there for a map first and THEN if I need directions... and TRULY dislike being forced to supply a starting location in order to get anything. I hope somebody from MS is "listening"... your gonna lose ground to google-earth because of it.)
Anyway, I used to be a hotmail fan but not now due to it small storage space. There is a saying that said, hotmail is 3rd claas mail while yahoo mail is 2nd class mail and Gmail is 1st class mail. The grading is done according to each of their storage space. Hence, many people find that hotmail is not user friendly.
Even if there are people who signed up, they just use the MSN messaging only, not the email.
So, how can hotmail prolong?
