Hi,
I am using Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. I have installed Internet Explorer 7. After reboot Internet Explorer icon is missing from Start menu but the text "Internet Explorer" is present. I can open Internet Explorer by clicking on it.
How do I get Internet Explorer icon back in start menu?
Thanks

I have had this happen on 2 computers out of about 50. I tried the fix supplied by rrjmin0 | 12/23/06 but it did not work. Any other suggestions?

Go into the registry and look for the registry key...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\IEXPLORE.EXE\DefaultIcon
I'll bet yours looks as mine did and has...
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe,-7.
What it should be is...
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe,-32528
Reboot. Problem solved.

My Solution
I just re-installed my machine and experienced this problem. I tried the above but the number in my case was -702. Changing it did not help. I backed up the key as a regfile and then deleted it. On rebooting the icon was there as it should be. The key was not re-created when I checked the registry again. I hope this helps.

Hi,
I was browsing through the registry and I found the same key as you ending -702. This is the wrong key, if you go one level lower you will find the key ending on -7. When you change this one it does work.
Good luck.
