I have had nothing but problems trying to install SQL SERVER 2005 using the VISTA os.
I continuously get a " a connection to the database could not be established as there is no connection on other end of pipe." This same program runs on XP Professional without any glitches. I am not sure what the corrective action is; I have written several people and received an acknowledgement but never heard back as to what corrective action I should take.
The second problem I have is with IE 7. If I want to download something from TechRepublic and I log in, I am put in a continuos cycle of logging in and then being asked to log in again..the site is treated as restricted web page.. I have tried to change the setting to a trusted web site to no avail. I wonder if uninstalling and reinstalling IE7 would correct the problem or would that be an exercise in futility?

Vista
Honestly I wouldn't even bother with something like SQL server on vista. It wasn't built for vista. It's still way to buggy for anything to be reliable but thats my 2cents. I do have vista installed duel boot and I never use it since it's such a resource hog.
As for the IE 7 not to sure. Try using IE 7 with win xp machine and see if you get that same problem.

I appreciate your response. I guess everyone else is too egocentric to even attempt a response.
Hoever, SQL Server was operational and effective in the Vista betas up until RC2, when I first encountered the problem installing the application. So, there is a solution somewhere which I guess I will stumble upon eventually. I just don't feel that I should have to juggle between two systems, and if there is a problem/solution I want to participate. I have yet to hear from George OU, who said he would contact Microsoft about the problem and see what they had to say.
I think the IE7 solution is to use the MS "User Agent String Utility" to view Tech Republic. This is the only problem I have encountered using IE7 to view TR. Using the utility I can sign in and download the articles and procedures like I was able to before IE7. I experienced the same problem with XP Professional, the website TR, and IE7. I think TR needs to loosen their security and privacy, because there is something wrong when a trusted site is connecting as a( uneditable)restricted site.
Thank you again for at least responding...I guess the rest just like rehashing the same crap, different day.
