Home network setup

I have just added a new computer to my home. It is on the second level of my home and my main computer is upstairs with the modem and router. I have a wireless access point on the computer downstairs but it is still not accessing the internet. I am not very smart when it comes to wiring and setting up things like this. Any advice, info, etc. will help. I also have another router that could be wired to the computer downstairs if need be.

Some ideas
If your current router is wireless capable, make sure the wireless is turned on (normally, this is left off at initial setup). If your router is not capable of wireless, you will need to replace it, in which case you should contact your internet service provider and see if they can supply you with a modem/router combination.
