I'v recently doubled the RAM memory on my desktop computer from 512 to 1024 and I experience sudden shutdowns. I can't make anything from the "reports" so I don't know where to start. Could it be an overheating problem?

Sudden Shutdown
I doubt a heat problem, but memory.
Remove the new stick and clean both the memory pins and memory tray. There may be dust in the track and that is preventing full contact being made. Actually, I would remove both sticks and make sure that they match also. Sometimes mixed memory will not work.

Hi Paul, both memories are newly purchased identical Corsair 512 mb sticks, there is no mix and match. I replaced the existing 2x256 sticks. When inserting the sticks, I felt I had to press quite hard. Then, one on the sticks dropped slightly on the board. Can this be the cause, i.e. a slight physical flaw in the memory sticks?
