eTrust AntiVirus

Hi,

I know, lots of questions... but I thought that is what TR is about happy

I am running XP home, and the anti-virus is eTrust from computer associates. Its probably not the best, but it does work and stop viruses, with free updates.

However, I notice on a reboot that the realtime scan does not start, and holding the mouse pointer over the icon in the taskbar, the error "unable to access the realtime service" ius given.

When I click on the icon in the taskbar to open the antivirus application, the realtime scanning starts.

Can someone give some advice as to why this occurs? I have looked on CA web site, but not found something to assist me on this issue.

E -Trust
is the best antivirus on the market. You must be running a demo version if updates are free. Like all software it sometimes gets confused. Run Hijack this and look for a reference in the "Run" section that looks like this.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Realtime Monitor] C:\PROGRA~1\CA\ETRUST~1\realmon.exe -s

If that is not there you can manually enter the information. If that is not applicable uninstall and reinstall E-Trust.

I downloaded it, and used it and the reference is there. I already did the uninstall and reinstall. Its not a demo version, its a licenced version.

I have just removed and reinstalled it and the same issue is still happening.

Can
you check and see if these "services" are running as automatic. Admin tools, services there should be 3 entries for E-Trust.

O23 - Service: eTrust Antivirus RPC Server (InoRPC) - Computer Associates International, Inc. - C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Antivirus\InoRpc.exe
O23 - Service: eTrust Antivirus Realtime Server (InoRT) - Computer Associates International, Inc. - C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Antivirus\InoRT.exe
O23 - Service: eTrust Antivirus Job Server (InoTask) - Computer Associates International, Inc. - C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Antivirus\InoTask.exe

They are all running.

What happens is this... I reboot, the icon on task bar shows realtime as not running. I place mouse pointer over the icon, it tell me it cannot connect to realtime service. I click on the icon to open eTrust, and the realtime starts running.

The reason that i replied to this question in the first place was the fact that i had the same problem recently. Fortunately i had another PC with E-Trust installed. I just copied the reg keys to the other PC and it fixed it.

Reboot the PC and when it restarts open Task Manager and check that you have these processes running.

InoTask.exe
InoRT.exe
InoRpc.exe

Just a thought! You have allowed Realmon and
InocIT to connect through your firewall?

Nothing But Problems With This Application
We have to shut down the services related to eTrust every time we want to run one of our Java-based Web applications. It's a bloated RAM pig. We're going to switch as soon as we can.

I use the home edition and do not have a RAM problem.

I do use Opera 9.10 and find this eats up much ram... much more than most all applications I run.

the problem was a bad update to the engine!

After that happened we changed supplier.
