Seagate External Drive - With XP - Can't Format

I was wondering can anyone help me....

I bought an external 300GB Seagate USB HDD [Brand Gulf-Tech].

-I can partition it under XP using the Disk Management tools.
-But when I try to do the next step of formating it, it always stop and says "formatting could not be completed".
- I have tried different USB ports but still no luck...

Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks in advance

Formatting an external USB Mass Storage
I faced same problem earlier with USB 64 gb drive. At last I have fixed it with HP USB Disk storage format tool. This utility software is freely available from net. It is to be noted that the formating in NTFS was not possible even with this software. I have used Fat32 and fixed. Hope that this reply is useful for many....
