Dell D600 Fails to Start Up

I've had a Dell D600 for almost three years now, and a few hours ago I left to go out for a bit and I unplugged my laptop from the wall-outlet power adpater and put it to sleep. When I got back home the laptop would not wake up out of hibernation mode, so I held down the power button and shut it off. Happens occasionally.

When I tried to turn it on when it was just on battery power, all of the indicator lights flickered and the computer hummed for three seconds before shutting off; all of the indicator lights shut off unless I pressed the power button, even though the laptop was at full power.

When I plugged my laptop back into the wall outlet, the power indicator light did not turn on, and when I tried to boot the machine I achieved the same end result: flickering of lights then nothing.

Is my computer totally screwed up?

Dell D600 Fails to Start Up
You posted a problem with start-up of your Dell D600 about 15 months ago. Your description of the problem is exactly what happened to my Dell Inspiron 2650 4 days ago. I unplugged the power supply and the laptop was in stand-by mode overnight and the next morning it wouldn't charge. As soon as the battery discharged the machine went dead and now the battery won't charge and the laptop won't power-up. Whenever I plug it in the led lights flicker and after 10 seconds the fan kicks on but the rest of the machine is dead. I've done research and the problem is supposedly the power supply, or the motherboard. I don't believe it's plug related. I even tore the laptop down to check for burnt traces around the plug to no avail. I re-assembled it and it behaves just as before. I notice you got no response last year on this post but was wondering if you ever were enlightened on what the problem was? It might save me some time and money. Thanks.

Hi,

The same problem has been happening to my Dell Inspiron 700M for a couple weeks. Randomly my computer will turn on, while at other times, the experience you described happens for days at a time. Did you ever figure out what was going on? Thanks so much!!

One thing to get FIRST. :)
1). You need to know WHERE your Motherboard Cmos batt is. (if you have one, if you do then get another replacement). Replace the old cmos batt with the new.

2). Take out the battery (the big one, not the cmos batt), and unplug it from the wall.

3). Press the ON/POWER for ten seconds and then release.

4). WITHOUT placing the Big battery in, plug in the mains adapter and turn on.

5). You might need to adjust the settings in the BIOS.
If you have life to your laptop then make sure everything is in order in the BIOS BEFORE you put in the battery. Make sure you power down first before you replace the battery.

If no indication of life then take to a repair shop.

Hope all goes well
