Dell Inspiron 6000 Extended Desktop display function not working.

A few months ago my laptop screen went black in the middle of a movie. Now it is visible during boot sequence, but stays black after that. I hooked up an external monitor and all was working well until the other day when I clicked the Extended Desktop option in the Graphics Properties section. Now my external monitor is black too. I can see my mouse pointer, but Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work, right-click doesn't work (it just beeps). I've tried restarting and going to safe mode, but it won't do that either. I need my display back. What can I do to enable my external monitor again and disable the extended desktop display option?

P.S. : I'm running Windows XP.

Did you
try the Fn+F8 keys to toggle between the three video modes supported?

Same problem...
I have had the same exact problem with mine and I've been running off an external monitor. I was watching a movie and it went black and now it just shows the start-up briefly then goes black. If anybody knows what's going on with this prblem please contact me. Thanks you
