default gateway
Change the default gateway of the gigabyte PC to its own IP address.

Firewalls
turn off your firewalls and reboot both machine. I believe you do not need a default gateway

You can try other protocols
Using tcp/ip between 2 PCs can be difficult
You need to make 1 a server

To do this share a dialup connection

Or you can install the NetBEUI Protocol

For Windows XP

The instructions are found on the Windows CD
In the folder
Valueadd \ Msft \ Net \ Netbeui

Read the Netbeui.txt file for instructions

You can also try the IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol
