Changing Jobs Within the IT Field

I would like to know if, in a situation of job change, I can count on some initial coaching instead of being expected high performance as soon as I land the job.
I am an experienced IT professional changing jobs within the industry. However, the technology I am going into is quite different from the one I have been working for the last 5 years. I am currently working with telecommunications, providing WAN infrastructure technical support for broadband services. I am going into LAN administration, which I have training and good conceptual knowledge but not much experience at the professional level.
