Certified ScrumMaster
I fail to understand how does a two day workshop qualify to be termed as a certification? Is it just another means of minting money, or does it have any weight at all?

Depends
I suppose it depends on what the certification is. Is there an exam at the end? And is it a recognised cert?
But you're right, it probably is just another way of minting money.

Does the term 'scrum' have some non-sport meaning I'm unaware of?

If not for Rugby I would be able to walk without limping / pain and would spend less time at my desk
Scrum is an agile method to get all the players working together aiming to move forward as a whole and characterised by daily stand up meetings. The scrum master leads the development effort in a number of iterations called sprints (have you ever seen a tight head prop sprint?) and is responsible for the team following the process.
I suggest a quick google or wikipedia lookup for more information.

If not rugby, then what are they playing? What's a tight head prop sprint?
Sorry, I'm lost like George Bush's foreign policy. Googling 'scrum' results in rugby references for the first couple of pages. Googling "tight head prop sprint" returns only this page.
Was the original post in response to an article? I've got no context to put any of this into. What the heck are we talking about?

NOUN: scrum skrum
1. (rugby) the method of beginning play in which the forwards of each team crouch side by side with locked arms; play starts when the ball is thrown in between them and the two sides compete for possession
2. [Brit] A disorderly crowd of people
That's all there is, unless you know differently.
