Fax to email

I would like to know a way of receiving fax on a fax machine and have it delivered as an email attachment to a public folder.

I've tried this with Esker's Vsifax software, and, while it works, there were too many points of failure for production use. The best thing is to receive the fax on a true fax machine then, have that fax machine send the email.

I currently use a Panasonic UF-8000 fax machine which supports multiple lines and does have an add-on module for email to fax, scan to fax, etc. but I don't know if it has fax to email capability (should be very similar to scan to email).

I am contacting vendors to find this out but I am open to other suggestions (even new fax machines that can do this).

Fax to E-mail
Our company has been on fax to e-mail for about a year now and it works great. I am not sure what your budget is so I will give you a couple of options.

We are using Toshiba E-studio 2500s and E-Studios C351. Both are Multifunction printers that are capable of converting faxes into pdf?s and sending them to any number of e-mail addresses. Both these machines are fairly costly.

If you are just looking for a fax machine and are not worried about the printer portion, the Sharp UX-BB00SE is a cheap alternative. We got 2 as backup's last year for about $100.00 each. They do not have printer capabilities so keep this in mind.

Post back if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your answer.

We're using E-Studio 550 and 520s as scanner/copier/printer. I'll check to see if the 520 has fax add-on modules since the 550 can't do email.

I couldn't find the Sharp UX-BB00SE anywhere.

The faxes sent as email are sent as attachments right? It'd be nice if it can embed the fax image into the body of the message so the end-user doesn't have to double-click twice to see the fax.
What's in the subject? TSID/CSID? If the machine can match up the Caller ID info (if station ID is not available) against a database then embed the customer name in the subject so end-users won't have to open the fax to find out where it's coming from. It would be even better if you could setup some sort of routing function where faxes coming from certain list of Caller IDs can be routed to different email addresses. I don't know if you are doing this with your solution but that would greatly help us. I know our e520 can integrate with AD as well as maintaining its own contact lists.

Hylafax
Not a hardware solution and not something that I can recommend as I've never used it, but I hear good things about HylaFax

Thanks but I'm no longer looking for a software solution. When it comes to faxes, it's best to receive fax with a true fax machine as opposed to a fax modem. I am using Esker's Vsifax on a Linux box with a DigiRAS 8-port modem card. We send tons of outgoing faxes to our customers this way but only began receiving faxes through it recently. However, we ran into many problems with using software + modems to receive faxes. When there's a lot of faxes coming in, the modem may hiccup and cause the system to disable it which will prevent new faxes from coming in. This is disastrous for us since we need to receive orders via fax (many of our customers don't have, use, or want to use a computer).

Fax
You see, it's much more reliable to send faxes through the internet fax service that using a fax machine. It saves you both money and time. Also with the code 0802198408021984 you'll have 20% discount for subscription to Popfax.com. It's a really good service.

Fax to Email might be best
Fax machines are always good, but I would recommend using a fax to email service, like FaxitFast.com. You never have to worry about busy signals, paper jams, toner, etc. which is always a hassle. Plus you can send and receive faxes directly through your email account and smartphone.

Fax to Email has pretty inexpensive plans starting at $5.83 /mo for 250 free pages and they offer a free 30 day trial so you don't have to commit to any long term contracts.

Hope this helps!
