drivers for my hardware

Hi, i installed wubi and have a dual boot now, under windows everything works fine (till now), but under ubuntu i dont have any sound at all, so i think i need drivers for my sound card, downloaded some from opensound.com, but cannot find the /tmp directory in my ubuntu folder. That folder is needed for the drives to be installed. Could it be, that this folder is not there in the wubi version, only in the full install version of ubuntu? I looked everywhere.. ok, im new to linux, i have to say.
thanks for any help happy
