Headers and footers in Word 2002
I have one computer that whenever the user inserts a header or footer, instead of actually inserting the text of what we asked, it inserts the title of what we want. For example, if we ask it to insert the file name and date, instead of inserting the file name and date, it inserts the words "filename and date" with symbols. Headers and footers insert fine in Excel. I have done a Detect and Repair but it didn't help. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds as if your Normal.DOT file is corrupt.
You can shut down Word then copy Normal.DOT from a known good installation to that computer, replacing the one that's corrupt.
I think you can even delete it and Word will recreate it when it's re-started, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

You need to turn off the field codes view. Go to Tools, choose Options, click the View tab. Uncheck the box next to Field Codes.
