wmiprvse.exe using all of my cpu

i am workign on a computer that is running very slow, so far im finding no traces of anti-virus, spyware,or malware. but i do notice when i pull up task manager on under the processes tab if i do a filter by the cpu usage i find a "wmiprvse.exe, that is taking up usually 75% of my cpu how do i fix this?

Be careful what you post. That link may not apply, depending on what system they're running. The original post didn't say.

Per the instructions on that download page:

this link would only be help full if i was running 2003 i found that out after i tried to load that patch and got the message "this does not appear to be a system management server or administrator console.
any other idea's
windows xp it has all the windows update including sp3

What do you mean by that?

Do you mean that you can't find any trace of any infections?

OR

Do you mean that this computer doesn't have ANY anti-virus, anti-spyware or anti-malware programs installed?

I only ask because your 'wmiprvse.exe' may well be a rogue program.

it had norton 360 installed on it and i also tryied pctools spyware doctor and also ran malware bytes and it was coming up clean, but my customer didnt have anything really major on his computer so i did the best thing and formated the drive and reinstalled xp now his 2.6 celeron with 2 gb ram is like lightning.
