At 50 years of age, I am currently an Applications Engineer with 8 years of experience and a B.S. in Electronic Engineering Technology. I am currently working on getting my Linux, Red Hat, Certification. Will anyone hire me without a Networking or IT background? What other certs will I need if any?

yes.....
You will might have to start out close to the bottom of the field, but its a foot in... I would go with a Network+, A+, and a MCSE... with all that you should get you a mid level position, but experience is everything.... Good Luck!
