Thumbs for making "worth while"

http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/tr-out-loud/?p=746

Ok, lets see if this weeks TROLOV can rank higher than Sonja's or Dill Betwhiler that Sonja talks about every now and then!

Step up and give it the worthwhile check and get a thumb! Get em while their hot! grin

Sorry, but I have a chip on my shoulder.

a bit of a cryass, weren't you? silly

How you healing up?
jdclyde 16th Jun 2009
at least i didn't make a blog out of my injury for attention and pity silly laugh (don't mess with me...i got even more bitter since my injury/painkiller withdrawls wink )

Okay. I'm back at the office now. My neck is hurting, but they said it could for up to 12 months. Can't come to KY for the event since I used up all my vacation/sick leave while in the hospital.

I am currently fathoming pulling a deal on the banks, consolidating all of my home debt into one note, then short selling the house and leaving the new note holder with nothing to show.

I am really sick of things, and I don't care if my credit goes in the crapper for whatever reason. I can stay at my job another year, rent a local non-sold spec home for half the money, be closer to work, and can move whenever i want.

My credit will rebound in 12 months because I'll have an extra $9k a year in the bank and will turn around things bought on cards in 1-3 months and show payment ability.

I am just really down still owning the house, but that's because I saw a job I would like to have gotten with a city government in NC and can't because I can't sell the house in no time flat.

Oh well, that's life...I guess.
jck 16th Jun 2009
"sorry, my back hurts to much" (next friday as you are halfway to KY)....

grin

Then again, I at least am sharing the ride, so that will lower expenses and share the driving.

Still only working part-time, so saving where I can is a must.

Leaving Thursday after work and heading back Sunday. While I am not bouncing as much as GG (NO ONE is), this is still going to be cool. A shame you, Mae, and Jessie can't make it. Imagine if we could have also pulled in Jaqui? oh my.... Kentucky would never be the same! grin
jdclyde 16th Jun 2009
I'd probably end up tucked in a corner with Sonja, GG, and Shellbot drinking in half-lighted accommodations.

I'm not a big social beast...not at least til after the 5th or 6th margarita. laugh

Yeah, I can't make it. No paid leave now. I borrowed $1ks to pay medical expense (btw...out of pocket insurance maximums? crock of $hit...almost paid double mine since April).

but hey...I have two new shiny titanium rods in my neck now...I can set off metal detectors now without my gun or knife!!!!! laugh
jck 16th Jun 2009
what the resale value of titanium is..... mischief

Make sure to leave THAT in your will! grin
jdclyde 16th Jun 2009
Is that a word you guys use?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7941646.stm

Titanium is worth around 20USD/lb so, unless you're carrying around more than a kilo or so...

You see an ad?

Between using FF3 and Adblock, I don't see it.

Yep
I always mark them as Worthwhile along with anything else that gets posted that is deserving of a Thumb. At one stage when the site was playing up you could click on Worthwhile a few times and you could give 3 Thumbs. You can normally logon to another System and give another Thumb by clicking Worthwhile.
15th Jun 2009

Replies

I did it Friday, and on another system today -- only cause of the plea and begging.
The Scummy One 15th Jun 2009
fire up a couple of old Systems and logon to add a couple more. 23 at the moment, I'll head for the shed.
Jacky Howe 15th Jun 2009
I guess JD only gets 2 from me
The Scummy One 15th Jun 2009
so I tried to log on with my other account to mark it as Worthwhile and it redirects to the Jacky Howe account. The people name search isn't working either.
Jacky Howe 15th Jun 2009
Clearing Cookies doesn't reset it?? It's profile specific on the site, and not the local system. Interesting..
shasca 15th Jun 2009
that has never been connected to TR and was able to logon to my second account. I went back to another System and deleted everything from IE and was able to connect. I think that the save the automatic logon was interfering. I could only give one Worthwhile for a Thumb though. I did manage to get it to 24.
Jacky Howe 15th Jun 2009
than profile.
jdclyde 15th Jun 2009
I did it from home on 1 machine and at work on 1 machine. I tried a second system at work and it wouldnt let me. I am now trying a second from home, through a vpn (different IP).

Nope! interesting -- I think it may be profile specific now. More interesting, my other account (shows as that account logged in) cannot either???
Hmmm -- this requires some fiddling when I have more time
The Scummy One 15th Jun 2009
it HAS to be looking at your IP.

I did twice from home and once from work.
jdclyde 15th Jun 2009
using the vpn I get a totally different IP than being plugged in at work.
The Scummy One 16th Jun 2009
So it cant be from IP, as I opened IE and logged in as the other account, and was able to add #32.

What a twisted set of results I am seeing from here.
The Scummy One 16th Jun 2009
I have no pride, and will plead and beg for what I want if that is what it takes! grin
jdclyde 15th Jun 2009
When I originally Marked TROL Useful I gave it 2 Thumbs because the first one didn't appear to do anything but when I clicked the second time when the page redrew the count had gone up by 2.

Then after the weekly clean of the system when I looked Monday I was prompted to vote again so at the moment I think you'll find that there are issues on the site that are causing some problems.

Though now the count is up to 28. shocked

Shellbot 16th Jun 2009
You used to be able to do it on the concorde.

Flights from NYC/Boston/Newark take about 6 hours to get to Dublin...about 7 to London.

Since it's 4 time zones, you can't make up hours.

In conventional airplanes, the only way to do that is crossing the international date line.
jck 16th Jun 2009
Heading the wrong way, If you fly to AU you loose a Day as you leave on a Monday and arrive on a Wednesday if you leave at the wrong time.
Similerally if you leave AU on a Monday you arrive on Sunday when you hit the US.

The International Date Line is West of the US not east but I would love to see Boxy's & Shelly's description of this. laugh

it was just not what you wanted to hear. That goes for all remarks that I make to everyone. I am NEVER mean, I always try to help, be it outta this life, off this board, outta the conversation, or whatever else -- it is all just trying to be helpful!

I guess I am just misunderstood sad
The Scummy One 18th Jun 2009
...thou dost protest too much! wink

But we love you anyway.
KSoniat 18th Jun 2009
Don't encourage Scummy if we ignore him perhaps he will go away just like W2K did. wink

Telling him that you love him just has the opposite effect and makes him return way too often. shocked

Right at the moment we are trying to Clean Up TR and Scummy is the number one cause of complaints. wink

There is more than one way to "smother" someone.

You have your way - I have mine! wink

The Scummy One 19th Jun 2009

Did you tell JD about the 200 + Helpful Marks to one of the most recent one of Bill Detwiler's Blogs? The one about removing Hidden Drivers from Vista and XP. shocked

I'm betting that you enjoyed telling JD about that right? laugh

Edited to add No I haven't misunderstood you at all you Scummy One. silly

but didnt feel like looking for it, so I decided to downplay it a bit, and set his goal lower to crush him later.
The Scummy One 19th Jun 2009

I suppose you could be crushing him NOW. wink

KSoniat 19th Jun 2009

The Scummy One 19th Jun 2009

Didn't I ialready pan this film?
This is just another example of a studio "marketing" the film to the Academy in a shameless attempt to garner more votes at Oscar time. The nerve!!!

P.S. I wish I was able to attend the event in Louisville. Have fun all! (Imagine meeting GG, jd, Palmetto, et al. What a blast!)

Was really looking foreword to your attendance.

Add to that hearing GG talk about Danger Mouse and the glow would have been priceless!

jdclyde 18th Jun 2009
What would be priceless is witnessing the glow first hand when GG gets to talking. wink

sad

Now we need to think of something else that will keep GranBot distracted. Maybe if I drop a bunch of glitter, having something shiny will keep her busy for a while...... grin
jdclyde 18th Jun 2009
post on shiny and distractions -- that was hilarious.
The Scummy One 18th Jun 2009
Just tell the Old Dear that Mae has misplaced her favorite Shovel and she'll spend the entire time there looking for it. This is just practice for her running around after all the Grand Kids looking for what they dropped and can not find now. grin

She may even get her Walking Frame up to 1 mile per hour in her search. So you'll need to warn the others to keep a watch out to prevent getting run over by a Blind, out of Control GranBot. thumbs_up
