Bring Excel into PowerPoint

I am running into a problem here and I am unable to find a solution. It seems that when in Power Point, when you go to insert a chart, any chart, a message comes up and states, "Some chart types cannot be combined with other chart types. Select a different chart type." I have opened Excel and I get the same message. I also get this in both XP and Vista. The office is 2007. I have compared the add-ins with mine and they are the same and mine works. I have installed a clean hard drive with no data, still, the same message. Any and all help would be appreciated.
