How do I turn off Parental Controls on this garage sale computer??

I have this xp home sp2 1.8ghz 224ram 80g, computer, HP/Compaq. Got it from garage sale awhile back, don't want to wipe it if I don't have to. I have retored some hardware issues, and know it wants to connect to internet, but EVERY page the Parental Controls ask for a password. I would think I could at least get to something online, but no page will be allowed. I went to turn it off and of course it wants the password. I don't know where this computer came from anymore so I can't ask. And I really want to get online with it.

Personally I would
Get a recovery Set from HP and reload it.

It's far easier to get it working that way.

OH and Home doesn't have any Parental Controls on it so you need to log in as the Administrator to do anything. wink

There is a way to set "parental controls" using the content filters that come with IE you can set a password to view any content past a certain level.

I do agree that reloading the machine is the best way to go. Not just because of the password, but you never know what other "freebies" you may inherit from the previous owners. I work on a lot of PCs retrofiting them and you would be amazed at the things that are left behind on computers.

Safe Mode?
I dont know for sure, but I would start by bringing it up in safe mode, deleting any user accounts and going from there...
