This formula is a CSE formula it's doing the first part of what I want it to do, now I want to add a second criteria to this formula from a different column
=SUM(LEN(A2:A15)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A2:A15,"text","")))/LEN("text")

If by 'criteria' you mean that it's conditional upon what is in the cell you're looking at, then try using the Conditional Sum Wizard. It creates an IF statement.
