A reminder to get back to basics is always a good idea and I really liked this video.
I work IT in an elementary school where I evolved into the job. All our big IT decisions are made at a District or State level, so I just bumble along, keeping things running at this end with a few servers and a bunch of macs for the students and PCs for the teachers.
I would love to hear from TechRepublic or its users on ideas for gaining intermediate level training for the developing IT person. Most of my learning is reactive to a problem and I would love to be just a little ahead of the situation sometimes. Has anyone out there has taken online courses that they found helpful in advancing their training?

There are loads of training cd/dvd's out there...
Depending on what you are looking for, IT, networks, Servers etc. You can then learn at your own pace and price.

Books.
I used to buy a hundred dollars or more of books quite often. They're good to keep for reference too. Sticky notes everywhere.
Online training is supposedly good but I found it to be quite difficult. It's not all that it's cracked up to be, you ask me. A large computer section in a book store used to enthrall me for an hour or more.
Support your public library too. Folks seem to forget about that.

Depends What you are looking for
There is so much training available that it is very difficult to choose which one to pick..
there are several Microsoft training programes which you can pick without doing too many exams e.g. MCITP, etc. very good for server administration, active directory etc. choose your pick
