I am currently upgrading the company software packages and we need a new anti-virus as ours is about the expire currently we are using mcafee.
Does anyone have any suggestions which will be the best to use on our network and what makes it better than mcafee? As my boss is determined that mcafee beats all.

McAfee is the #2 in anti virus and you will find thing that slip through. Symantec (Norton) is the #1 anti virus which I would suggest. # 3 Trend Micro or #4 AVG are also pretty good too. I will take Symantec or AVG over the rest....

more factors
Any of the major players will do what you need done. The biggest issue is how well each of these candidates will work in your environment. There are quirks to everyone of them and many times the real issue is how nicely do they play in your company's environment.
The other factor to look at is your company's overall defense strategy. Sometimes it pays to use a different product on the servers then on client machines. This allows you to avoid having your whole organization be exposed due to one bad update. It also increases the odds that one product may see something before the other one does.
