SBS 2003 Server Hangs when connecting external USB HDD

We have a client running SBS 2003, when you connect a external USB HDD the server hangs and needs to be physically reset.

Any Idea's on what the problem could be?

You may need to load the
software for the drive first. Especially if it came formatted as a FAT32.

I am having the same issue. I am using an eSATA card in the server attached to an external eSATA drive. This was working perfectly for 6 months. Now when we power down the external drive the network goes down and we have to reboot the SBS 2003 server.
Any suggestions would be a great help.
