Outlook 2003: user cannot send to distribution list

One of our users has created a distribution list in Outlook 2003. When they send an email to this distribution list, there are no error messages, the message goes to Sent Items, but the recipients don't receive it, however if the user expands the distribution list first, there are no problems and the email is sent/received fine. All of the email addresses in the list are valid. We use Exchange 2003 and the list members are a mix of internal and external contacts.

distribution list
Was the distribution list created in a public folder? If so then try this:

In Outlook Tool->Email Accounts-> Add a new directory or address book click next.
Select additional Address books click next.
Choose Outlook Address Book click next, then finish.

No it wasn't, it was created in the user's Outlook Address Book, but thanks for the reply.
