software installation trouble

you have purchased a new video game for your computer and attempt to install it upon inserting the installation disc,however,nothing appear to happen on your computer .what is your next step?

Next step would be
Launch Windows Explorer and validate that the CD-ROM appears as a valid device.

Click on the CD-ROM device and look for a program called 'setup.exe' or something similar. Click on that filename to execute it.

If you've got all these problems at once, then I feel a bit pity.
But, I get this feeling that you aren't having these problems yourself. If these questions were given to you for some kind of training situation, then I'd suggest that you try yourself first.
If we'd just feed you with one out of many possible answers, then you won't be prepared for the discussion in class (and even less for real life).

This way the individual would learn both that they should not trust the advice of strangers, and that they should seek the answer on their own.

You mean:
Something may be wrong with your Windows installation. Try completely wiping the hard drive, using dban. Then, if you still have Windows handy, you can reinstall it.
Otherwise, you'll have to start using Linux instead.
Oh, If you didn't do any backup, then it's too late now. Sorry about the photos...
