Is CMDB relevant for virtualization?

With the speed and volume of change involved in virtualized environments, is CMDB still a relevant approach for IT efficiency?

I would think even more so
Since virtualization allows a server to be created with a couple of mouse clicks, how else would you keep track of how many servers you have?

However, if the CMDB providers do not work or play well with virtual environments, then they have made themselves irrelevant.
