hyperterminal command to change sub netmask

i am building a switch on a windows xp system and while i was doing that i accidently hit enter for the default option of 255.255.0.0
i need to be able to change that otherwise when i try to set up a vlan it says that it overlaps vlan 1.

Clarify
what type of switch?

Clarify why you cannot change it?

Is your PC subnet mask now different than the subnet mask of the switch?

Are you connected via ethernet or console cable?
