DVD burning software with fast encoding time?

I always use Nero Vision express to burn mp4, avi and other video formats on to a DVD movie.

MY Sony DVD player understands only DVDs that are burned in DVD Video formats (meaning if you burn a couple of movie files on to a DVD like a normal data disc, then my Sony DVD player would not recognize it).

When I use Nero, the encoding time for other video formats to a DVD format takes at an average of 6 hours (for one 4 GB DVD).

Is there any other DVD burning software that does this encoding in a super fast speed? any free ware or shareware or licensed software that you guys use?

I need to burn my video files soon to a DVD with a less encoding time.

Thanks, Maran.
