Why cant I log onto DC
Ok, I am having a problem, its a server 03 sp2 and I when I log on its not logging me on to the DC. About a week ago I was going to log in remotely and it gave this error " the user profile is either corrupt or..." then it logged me on with a default admin account that you really couldn't do anything with. There are two drives C and D, is on 12g and D is 900. I got a call saying the network drive went down today, came over logged in and it told me the same error, user profile is corrupt.. After it logged me on with the temp admin account I noticed the "C" was full. To free up space I moved the paging file to the "D" rebooted and Network drive is accessible to client pc's and I don't get the error message when logging in, however when I log on I am not getting my regular desktop. So I tried a small test and tried to rest the Admin password. I got the error message "windows cannot complete the password change for Administrator because: The system cannot find the file specified". Resources still work, network drive, printers.... however cant add any users or administer the network . Can anyone shed some light? Server was setup long before I was appointed all of this but I will answer any questions that you have to better assist you to assist me.

Well if I understand your question correctly
You are being told that your " the user profile is either corrupt or..." so obviously the server considers your User Profile Corrupt or whatever.
As you can not log in and do things that normally would be possible you either need to log in with another Admin Account or get local access to the system and log in with an Admin Account to either repair your Account or replace it.

..cant I log onto DC
You didn't say if you (or anyone else) had created a Password Reset Disc (flashdrive,etc.). I would go with the above suggestion and then 'scour' the drives for malware. Sounds alot like you've got a case of Trojan-itis or perhaps ...someone's playing a bit of mischief. Either way, your old Administrator account is probably destroyed. I would also check in AD for any unkown or bogus remote user accounts, and remove any users no longer employed at your company.

depends on what W2008 is installed
if it's just the core, it's true, you don't really log on...if it's full version, you don't really log on locally to the machine because it's a domain controller. you log on to the domain ....using domain credentials. From there, you can configure features and roles including those features and roles pertaining to Active Directory domain, but your still not, technically, "logging on" to the DC..there's no local machine admin account for a DC. There is administrative accounts which give you permissions and rights, but again, technically, you don't log on to the local machine....

Why Cant i log into the Domain controller.
well here there several things you have to find out. one are you a member of the domain?, did the Systems Administrator give you your user login details. meaning password and the user name. make sure your computer is properly joined to the Network and part of the DC. by all mean, you will be able to log onto the DC.
try that am sure you will be able to.

I am logging on the server.. It just stopped working all of a sudden. I can log on but when I log on now its on to the server not the domain controller, (is my assumption) logging in as the admin, I can't not add a new user, when I try to resset admin password it says "specified file does not exists.

Why cant I log onto DC
Is this server an object an AD? If so the object may have become corrupted. If this was a workstation I would suggest to simply rename the machine then allow AD to create the new object. I had this same issue with a PC workstation last week. Renaming the machine was the fix.

It says domain controllers connot be moved from one domain to another, they must first be demoted, and that if I rename then the domain maybe temporarily unavailable to users and computers. Network and all resources are currently still available however I dont know if that will change after I rename
