I'm not sure that I understand your question here
Do you want the computer that looses it's network connection to send you a message?

If it's a Windows System the Network Connection will pop up on the Task Bar beside the Clock that there is no Network Connection or that it's Limited.

if however you want the system to send a message over the LAN to tell you that it's no longer connected that's not going to happen because the moment it looses the LAN connection it looses all ability to send any data across the LAN.

Hi thank your for your prompt response, yes the software that i use in the network covers the entire screen and the pop-up does not show up, this point of sale system runs 24/7 and when they realize the connection is down days have past.

Second PC
Use a second PC or server to monitor the POS. I use a program called Overseer ($50 to monitor up to 50 resources) for example.

Nagios
If you've got the time to learn/configure it, I'd recommend Nagios. It's free/open source, can monitor pretty much anything you can imagine, will email/SMS/alarm when things go down and there's a nifty Firefox plugin available (Nagios Checker) which will pop up warnings on your desktop.
