Wireless internet works only when I disconnect the LAN

I have two networks in my office windows XP desktop..one LAN which is our office network. I connected a wireless adapter to my PC to get an external free wi-fi.But my Wi-Fi works only when I disable my LAN.is there any way to use wireless network without disabling LAN??

What OS are you using here?
If it's some form of Windows XP, Vista or 7 it's not likely that you can overcome this as that is the way that the system is designed to run. wink

When you use your office network your computer is configured (IP address) to use the office network. When you use the Wifi option then your comp is configured to use the external network. If you have only one network card then you have to choose or activate/deactivate. But you can still check the properties of your network configuration if an alternate config is possible. Otherwise you need a second network card in order to connect to both networks.

Check your BIOS settings
Some name brand computers ( mine is an HP) have a BIOS setting that disables the onboard WiFi when an ethernet cable is plugged in. Not sure why this is so, other than to annoy.
