Should a Static IP Address or Reserved DHCP Address be used?

What is considered the best practice for a non-domain network of about 12 PC's and about 5 printers as far as IP address assignments? Do assigning static address have a benefit over reserving an IP assignment in the DHCP, or the other way around? I know that both methods accomplish the same thing, that is keeping an address fixed to the hardware, but is there something that makes one method preferred over the other?

6 of one half a dozen of the other
Here it all depends on what it is you want to achieve but you should first realize that in any form of Windows Workgroup there is a Upper Limit of 10 Concurrent Connections possible on the Professional and Above Versions of the OS.

So if all Desktops have to connect with 1 printer you are likely to run into Dropped Connections along the way.
