How do I add custom search providers in IE8/Win7

Just installed Win 7 Ultimate (64) on a new machine. Opened IE 8. Bing is the search provider. Tried to add a custom search provider (google.ca). All I got was a flowery web page with three tiles of obscure search providers (eBay, Amazon, one other). There used to be a simple way to add a search provider by going to it, search for TEST, and copy the resulting URL into the IE custom search providers, and Done.

Seems like Microsoft is trying to force me into Bing. How can I get google.ca into the list in IE8?
