I have an IMB Lenovo mtm 8808 with XP pro. What is happening is the computer will be running and then just lock up and quit. The numlocks stay lit and dont respond and the screen goes black. At this point I usually have to pull the power cord and wait 15-30 mins and turn it back on. When it comes on I get"The system has recovered from a serious error, the log of the error has been created" This is not happening all the time. Ive ran the IBM diagnostics test multiple times and been 100%successful and have had the computer on for a week with no problems but lately it seem every few days this happens. Here is the error signature: BCCode : 1000000a BCP1 : 00000000 BCP2 : 0000001C BCP3 : 00000001
BCP4 : 80502300 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1
Any thoughts. I have reinstalled OS and swapped memory.

Download a copy of the Ultimate Boot CD
Available free here
http://majorgeeks.com/Ultimate_Boot_CD_d4981.html
make a copy of it on a CD and then after setting your Lenovo to boot from the Optical Drive insert it into the Optical Drive and run some Diagnostics.
Start with the obvious things like CPU and RAM Tests.
Also see if the Hardware falls over running from th Ultimate Boot CD if it doesn't then there is something wrong with Windows and you may need to take more drastic Steps to reinstall it.

Pull the Plug
Are you holding the power button in for at least 5 seconds? If so and you still have to pull the plug to turn off PC, I'd suspect a faulty power supply or motherboard. Most likely cause is a weak capacitor in the power supply and unplugging PC allows capacitor to fully discharge. Try another power supply.
Running tests as recommended by OH Smeg will differentiate hardware from software problems, but this sure looks like hardware.

The power supply has diagnostic lights on it. It is showing good when its locked up but that doesnt always mean anything. Im going to try another and see what happens. I was thinking MB, processor, or PS. I was just hoping someone here had the same issue

Thermal Problem?
Could it be the old "fluff in the airflow" problem? Units of this era will have had plenty of time to accumulate enough dust & fluff to block the cooling system. Feel around the case for hot-spots. Feel for airflow out of the the "exhaust" end of the cooling system.
When switched off blow vigorously into the "exhaust". If large "fluff bunnies" appear around the fan air intake then the system needs a good clean-out. Search out a dismantle guide and grab some screwdrivers. (Or find a friendly local repair shop.)

It is getting very warm. Everything is cleaned out, fans work, and I even took off the 2 covers for installing additional cards in the back of the machine for more air flow.

Video card ...
Just an alternative consideration:
Although not using a Leveno I had similar difficulties with a desktop for weeks. No amount chkdsk, sfc, WD diagnostics, MB bios resets, additional fans, OS reinstalls et al ever resolved anything.
Eventually I noticed an occassionaly video card artifact and soon after its eventual total failure.
Replaced the video card and have been totally error free since.

Try Safe Boot
See if you can log into safe mode with networking and use the machine for a fair amount of time that it would take to freeze in normal mode. While in safe mode with networking, you can browse the net and use some applications like those by Microsoft. But most everything else won't allow to run in safe mode, including your a.v.. So don't get carried away during your diagnosis and visit websites that are considered safe while in safe mode.
If your computer doesn't freeze in safe mode, then execute a clean boot and also disable your task scheduling service. http://pcsmarties.wordpress.com/cleanboot/
Then boot back into normal mode and see if the problem is resolved. If so, then you disabled the problem causing the freeze and now you need to figure out what it was.
