New Laptop/New Explorer, what do I do?
If you recently bought a new laptop and it came with IE9 installed, how can you get IE8 on there instead? Not all Web Applications work with IE9.

Clarifications
Can you be more specific? What applications aren't working for you? I ask because I don't think there's anything you can do to downgrade IE, but maybe we can make it work for you.

Have you tried
Opening the Control Panel and removing IE9 from Windows Components?
Then you can install IE8 which you have downloaded previously from the M$ Download Center.

I don't think you can downgrade the version of IE that comes build into a Windows OS. Whatever is there to begin with is as low as you can go.
Removing IE from Windows Components hasn't really removed it since W95; it just removes the icons and shortcuts. The original installation version is still there; too much of the GUI depends on it.

With 7 you should be able to load IE8 if it came with IE9 Installed.
After all IE8 is what 7 was originally supplied with and you had to Update to IE9 for most people and it's still that way with White Box's.

IE8
Do not remove anything before you install another version of IE. The browser is bundled into the OS. I wouldn't remove an IE installation at all.
Get a download of IE8 and see if you can install it. If you can, use it.

The trouble there is when you attempt to install IE8 you are given a message that you already have a newer version of IE Installed and the Installation ceases.

Windows Updates will not download an older version of IE when a newer one is already installed.
