Help! I think my laptop/ wireless connection is being hacked?
I had a virus removed from my computer last year by a local IT firm. They also rebuilt the computer and installed a version of Vista on to it. I now suspect they have have access to my laptop (browsing history etc) either through the router or the software they installed on the computer. Is there any way of checking to see if this is the case or making changes/ removing and reloading software etc to rectify this and give me peace of mind?

What makes you think they did this?
And you can start over, just use a wiping utility like DBAN to smack the hard drive and reload the OS from your Vista recovery disks or install disks that you should have.
Warning: The DBAN will irrecoverably destroy all data on the hard drive. Make sure you have a backup of all required files that you want to save from the machine.

Cheers for that, have had a few comments from people I know recently that could have only come from people having access to my computer!

Make sure that...
Make sure that you are running some sort of encryption on the wireless (WPA2, etc) and use a strong password on the admin account of the router.
If you are running unencrypted wireless just about anyone can see what you have going on on your network and PC.

Also change the Default PassPhrase/Password
If you have any Form of Security Involved on your WiFi Access Point. If you retain the Default Password/PassPhrase anyone can enter it to log into your WiFi.
Ideally you should change the User Name on the WiFi Access Point as well but some Domestic Devices do not have that Option.
As for checking for Infections Root Kits or whatever you can use a Boot Disc to check for any Infections look at the TR Article here
