Can a startup chkdsk be run on Vista x64 system with a Vista x86 oem disc?
I need to run a startup chkdsk /r on a system running Vista HP x64, but need to know if it's safe to run from a x86 disc, as that is all I have access to at this point.

Yes it can
And while it's not recommended it should be safe enough to just repair the Partition Tables.

Technically all Utilities
Technically all Utilities
OH Smeg Updated - less than a minute ago .Can be run on any system provided they are not run from with in the OS.

It's just easier to use something like the Ultimate Boot CD though rather than any M$ Offering. The Ultimate Boot CD has all the useful utilities that you are likely to need and are easy to use.

I would like to be able to run an offline sfc scan on the x64 machine, because it is unable to fix any of the issues by running it from within the Windows environment. I have UBCD, but not the specific utility to repair the os (as near as I can tell). Any suggestions?

To run SFC/R
You need the right Disc for the OS. So if you have a 64 Bit OS you need a 64 Bit Install Disc.

You can not run things like SFC/R which is the only one really worth running in a nonbooting OS situation with the wrong Install Disc.
