why do restore points in Windows 7 keep disappearing?

They disappear ups on reboot, sometimes while the machine is idle.....most frustrating!

try looking at its properties.
restore points will be deleted in order to conserve disk space. the disk space is user customizable to limit or increase the amount to allocated for restore points.

maybe the amount is set to zero or too little megabytes.

so double check the amount of space via the system restore properties page.

another thing you can try, if the above settings seem ok, is to it off and reboot. then try re-initializing the service in order to see if it kicks in and the error corrects itself.
