Syncing Windows CE5.+ Outlook to Windows 7 and Office Outlook 2007 SP2

Why, Microsoft, why?
Not sure whether I've exhausted all of the avenues, but I would really like to sync my Axim X51V that's running Win CE 5.0, to MS Outlook 2007, SP2. Windows Mobile Sync center refuses to recognize the WinCE5.0 device. At one point, early on, there must have been a sync, as the contact list did merge to Outlook. Since then, NADA. None of the Calender, Tasks, Contacts, or even backup (From ActiveSync 4.+ are seen

Does anyone have any other options? There was a suggestion to replace the WinCE5.0 OS with a non-OEM WinCE 6.+ OS, since Outlook will communicate to the Mobile 6.+. As a last resort, I'll burn the ROM, but for the moment, having the OEM OS intact is comforting.

I've used the Dell Axim X51V for several years. I have no immediate need for a SmartPhone, so the Dell is a perfect device for me and is working well.
