Hi all,
My first post and could do with some pointers and advice.
I would like to back up all users PC's through SBS 2011 26 users in our office network.
We have recently bought a HP Proliant DL180 G6 Server
Processor (2) Intel Xeon E5645 (2.40GHz/6-core
3 SAS Drives 10k, 600Gb in Raid 5 for my operating systems
HP Smart Array P410 Controller
Software running SBS 2011 standard on a Hyper-V platform
What i want to do is back up to this server through SBS 2011.
If i bought 3 more SAS Drives in Raid 5 and setup in a separate logical disk and have all backs up to this location.
Would this work or are there better options.
Advice most welcome as very inexperienced at data backup
Best Rgrds
Rob

Complex
This solution will be difficult to manage as a beginner backup admin. Would you consider using a web-based solution that is inexpensive, yet managed? It can even backup Exchange and SQL. These days, there are plenty of good 'set it and forget it' solutions that are enterprise grade. This would be my recommendation.

The better approach
this may not be helpful but.....
Create a standard image for the PCs and a shared network drive for all users; inform users that only data on the shared drive gets backed up. Done.
Backing up individual PCs over the LAN is slow, prone to error, and a waste of space. Ideally you would want to do both a file backup and an bare-metal image backup of each PC, but all that takes a lot of time, disk space, frustration.
IF you do want to do PC backup, you need a server app like Symantec NetBackup could do the job, and they make an optional 'bare metal restore' agent.
