SIM card data retrieval

After changing out the card to a new cell the data was not found. When loading back into the original cell, all data was lost. Where did it go ? Is there another way to retrieve it?

A SIM card is just a memory card

It has persistence like most media, so with a USB-connected SIM reader and the correct software, there may be a good chance of data recovery.
