Operating Systems

I have a Gateway m275 and I accidentally erased some file and now it won't start it keeps telling me my os is no longer on their and I need to put one on their. It runs window xp. How do I put a new operating system and can I put windows 7 on it now.

As for placing a new OS onto the HDD
You need to use a Install Disc and install the OS.

As to if you can use Win 7 it all depends on the hardware. You can use the Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser to see if your Hardware and installed Software is compatible with Win 7 but you'll first need a Running OS installed. If you have a XP install Disc you can use that or there may be a Recovery partition on the HDD which you can use to reload XP but if you have a Recovery Partition it's likely to return the system to As New and you'll loose all your Data & Settings.

remember to remove the space from between microsoft and the .com for a working link.

If you can use 7 on this computer you'll need a Licensed Version of 7 and you'll need to register it after you load it.
