I use a Netgear WG111v2 wireless connection, using Windows XP, when the connection IP is assigned by DHCP I connect to the internet without any problem. However if I enter an IP address manually I cannot connect to the internet although the status on the connection tab does state that I am connected and to all intents and purposes it appears that I am, but I am not...
Any suggestions please !

Need some more info
There's not enough information to say what the problem is. Can you tell use what the DHCP address that works is, and what the static IP, DNS server and default gateway you are setting are? Below are a few more things to check:
Is the static IP you are assigning in the correct subnet?
Are you assigning the default gateway? Can you ping it?
Are you setting the correct DNS servers? Can you ping 8.8.8.8?
