Tried to restore and now stuck.

I tried to do a complete restore from my external hard disk using NTI Backup Now EZ. Once it reloaded, it went to the screen with winload.exe is corrupt. I have a recovery disk for Vista, but it will not boot from it and I cannot get to a command prompt. In fact, I cannot get to any screen other than the one stating winload.exe is corrupt or missing. Please help me in any way, I need to get my programs from the backup file, even if it means buying a new hard drive. Please help me out. Thanks.

The best way is to get a bootable Windows CD
perhaps yours just has a scratch or smudge?

With a Windows CD, you then go into the install routine then choose the repair option and then choose command prompt. from there type bootrec /fixmbr then bootrec /fixboot which should reinstall the bootloader.

Hirens boot CD may be able to fix this:
