Windows 7 installation.

Most laptops sold today have Windows 8. I do not want it. Is it feasible to buy a copy of Windows 7 and install it instead?

There are still Win7 machines on sale
And often at good prices too. A lot of them will have 7Pro installed rather than a home version but these will probably meet your needs - have a hunt online happy

From what I have observed
In looking at Business Class Systems and speaking to Microsoft it's only Domestic Class Systems that are supplied with Win 8.

If you look at Business Class Systems you'll have to fight to find anything loaded with 8 and if you speak to the M$ Sales Team they only ask about Win 8 Sales on Mobile Devices like Phones and Slates.

They don't expect you to push 8 onto your customers in AU at least. wink

another issue with consumer class is . . .
only on a very select few will there be downgrade driver support
even with win 8 only a few months old a lot of consumer class systems won't have downgrade driver support

you'll want to check the system Mfg. web site for driver support
