If you have a dedicated Internet connection to the network, aned your mail server has an MX record in DNS, then you could set up Internet Mail accounts in Outlook, and dial in that way. The individual account security is handled directly in each Internet Mail account. The problem is, it would all download to the same local PST file - there is NO WAY around this (that I know of...)

Configuring Outlook for multiple users
First: Set up the individual Outlook to accept multiple Users.
Second: Add a User Profile for each new person.
Do this by having the first person turn Outlook on. Once Outlook is open, go to Tools, Options, then click on the "Mail Services" Tab. Then under the Startup Settings, choose the radio button to "Prompt for a profile to be used". Close out of Outlook.
Have the first person log out of the computer, and the next person log into the computer.
Right click on the Outlook icon, Properties. When the dialog box comes up, click on the "Show Profiles" button. Highlight the current users name in the top box and click on the "Copy..." button. Enter the New User's name (Or nickname or whatever they want to be known as) and "OK". This user's name now appears in the top box.
With the new user's name highlighted in the top box, click on the "Properties" button. This will bring up the "Services" Tab with the Mail Server highlighted. Again click on the "Properties" button. Replace the Old User's Mailbox name

The only way to handle multiple downloads, with seperate accounts, while keeping thier mail seperate, is to have an exchange server do it. If you set up an exchange server, it will download mail for all accounts to it. From here, it will pass on themail to each user as they log in. Past that, they would have to share an account.

a solution to this can be a software like PostMaster (www.qlcomm.com) which allows you to setup various pop3 accouts to be polled. it can connect to the mail server and poll the accounts and capture the email to localdisk. all the outlook users can configure their machine to connect to PostMaster (which acts like a pop3 server, itself) whenever they need to to check their emails.

Confused about why the users must dial-in by a certain time? Why not setup OL98 w/multiple profiles? Then let the users log into the Domain at least once to validate their login and from that point setup OL to prompt for username at login. Let the users pick their name from the list, force the users to enter their userid, domain name and password to the domain and be done with the time thing. If OL98 is in use when a user wants on, the current user only needs to EXIT OL (not close, otherwise the MAPI32 client stays open & could allow access to previous user's email session)and the next user logs in as themself. Have the steps, but thought I would give the idea first. kennyw

Its complicated, but writing a script file is the only way to solve all of the associated problems.

Create a script file to edit the registry keys to automatically log in as the user, connect to the internet download the mail, and then change theautomatic logon registry entries, and proceed through all of the users. Use the at command to schedule the script to run in the middle of the night.

Or shoot your users, it can be less messy :-)j/k

Look into Outlook 2000. It seems to handle multiple people a little better. If that doesn't help I agree with the later part of the previous message

hello,

within Control panel, go to Mail, and set up multiple profiles for your users.

rather than schedule the dial in, have each user dial in when they are ready, such that they log into their individula profile, and download their enail into their own folders. this should work well for you.

Best of luck,

Are you using a pop3 service on the sever? if so you can configure a internet mail profile for each user. Setup the remote mail schdule to connect whenever you want it to dialin.

IT SEEMS AS IF THE USERS ARE NEEDING TO ACCESS THERE MAIL FROM A REMOTE SERVER, THROUGH E-MAIL CLIENT OUTLOOK 98. IF THIS IS THE CASE THEN I'VE HAVE BETTER LUCK USING OUTLOOK EXPRESS. SETTING EACH USER'S POP3 ACCOUNTS ACCORDING TO THE E-MAIL PROVIDER'S SPECIFICATIONS. THIS IS OF COURSE AFTER EACH USER HAS HAD A PROFILE SET UP THROUGH OUTLOOK EXPRESS. EACH PROFILE CAN BE ASSIGNED A PASSWORD JUST AS OUTLOOK 98. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

This is my last attempt, In Microsoft Technet Desktop Applications, Tips an Techniques article, Using outlook express to receive E-mail from multiple accounts, explains this procedure clearly and it should apply to setting up other outlook clients that are using internet mail, since it covers both LAN and dialup connectivity.

Set up a personal folder for each person, set up ALL of their email accounts under a single profile, and use the "Organize" function to reroute email to each user's folder.

So, if you get an email sent TO bill@me.com, route it to the BILL folder. If you get one sent TO jane@me.com, route it to Jane.

Then, you automate Outlook to check each email account automatically, and everyone checks their own email by going to their folder.
