Cannot apply group policy without local admin rights
I know that this must sound weird. I does to me anyway. I have a Windows 2000 Domain with Windows XP clients. The clients are not able to apply the policies unless the user has local admin rights. Example: I create a new policy to hide the D: drive, I login as a user that should be affected, the D: drive is still there. Now, a give that user administrative rights on the local machine and login again, now the D: drive is gone. Am I just overlooking something simple. Please help!!!!

Also, what service pack level are these XP clients? I would imagine SP2, but I wanted to ask. SP2 does change the way some GPO's are applied, I think mostly conditional elements though. Hope this helps!

The correct rights are already assigned to the Authenticated Users group. The XP clients are SP2, but this was an issue before we applied SP2. any more suggestions.

Best practice: - create a group of users which you want to apply the policy at, and assign the policy to that group, not to the authenticated users.

Are you trying to run scripts?
If you are trying to run scripts, which it sounds like, they are automatically run as the user or computer account. If those accounts do not have admin rights, and the script command needs that, it will fail. I have struggled with this myself. All other settings within a GPO will run as if it is an admin, just not scripts. Sorry no solution, just an explanation.
