Office XP Word document stuck in Design view

I figured out how to create a document in Word with radio buttons, check boxes, and drop down menues.

I saved the file now each time I open it I get the design view and have to exit design so that to I can use it in input mode.

How do I save it so that when it is opened it is in input mode not design mode?

After you've saved the document as a form template follow these instructions:

Note When you follow these steps to add protection to a document, the form fields are reset.

On the Tools menu, click Protect Document.
In the Protect Document task pane, under Editing restrictions, select the Allow only this type of editing in the document check box, and then click Filling in forms in the list of editing restrictions.
To add protection to only parts of a form, click Select sections, and then clear the check boxes for the sections (section: A portion of a document in which you set certain page formatting options. You create a new section when you want to change such properties as line numbering, number of columns, or headers and footers.) you don't want to add protection to.
Note To add protection to only parts of a form, those parts must be in separate sections. (On the Insert menu, click Break to create section breaks.)

Click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection.
To assign a password to the form so that users who know the password can remove the protection and change the form, type a password in the Enter new password (optional) box, and then confirm the password. Users who don't know the password can still enter information in the form fields.
Save the form, and then distribute it as you would any other document that you send for review.

Ok I could find Protect Document and selcted form option but could not find any of the screens or options you explained about in the edit panel. What I see in Office XP looks like handleing of highlighting and sentances not making the document open in data input mode.

I found the protect document option and now can not unprotect the option is greyed out I also can not select to enter or exit design view now which exiting design view allowed me to protect the document.

But the document is still opening in a protected design view that I can not make changes to the feilds.

I have to agree with the previous answer. I spent some time looking around, as I worked on designing a test form. Once I hit the lock button on the forms toolbar, it was in input mode. I saved and closed. Opened again and voila, input mode. I can still click the lock button and go back to design mode too. I don't know about messing with protection options. I didnt do any of those...
